Museum, Amsterdam

I If you have the opportunity to travel to Amsterdam this summer, ensure a visit to the Green Box Museum. Named so due to the green walls reflecting the colors of the Saudi Arabian flag and referred to as a ‘cabinet of curiosities,’ the museum is an inspiring first of its kind for art from the Kingdom.

Enrich your soul by enjoying a revealing insight into a deeply mysterious world of art. Imagine oneself within the environment of the artists. The cultural restrictions regarding creative expression combined with the human necessity for communication inspires and encourages expansion of ‘vision’. Saudi artists symbolically construct their compositions conveying their messages and portraying their insights to a world-wide audience.

The very informative museum website includes a great dictionary displaying the artists’ names with reports on each. There are many notable exhibitors, such as the medical doctor and artist from the green and mountainous region of Aseer, Ahmed Mater. His vibrant energy and ability to express emotions, sharing insights combined with a sense of humor has brought him fame in Europe as well as in Saudi. Well known compositions by Mater include Magnetic, Talisman X-rays and the Yellow Cow Series.
